Family Friendly Halloween Fun 2016

The Indianapolis area offers many family friendly Halloween activities, sure to entertain everyone in family. Here are a few of our favorites:

Children’s Museum Haunted House: Cursed Castle

This year the Children’s Museum becomes a Cursed Castle! A once stately fortress has been overrun by a dragon in this year’s iteration (the 53rd Annual) of the Haunted House at the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis.

Cost: $8 (Children under 2 are free)

Dates/Times: October 8th – 30th, 2016

How Scary? The Children’s Museum does offer a “lights on” (not as scary) option and a “lights off” (more scary) option. For specific dates and times on those, click here: Cursed Castle.

Connor Prairie becomes Connor “Scairie”

The Headless Horseman is back at Connor Prairie! Relive Washington Irving’s classic The Legend of Sleepy Hollow on a hayride at the living museum in Fishers.

Cost: $17 on Fridays or Saturdays, $13 on Thursdays and Sundays. Or, get $2 off if you buy your tickets at one of several Marsh or O’Malia’s Supermarkets. For the list of participating stores, click here: Headless Horseman Discount Stores. Also gives you access to the rest of the living museum, so be sure to check it out and participate in the Halloween celebrations of 1860!

Dates/Times: Every Thursday-Sunday during October, gates open at 6 pm.

How Scary? Luckily, because the gates open at 6 PM, you can control how scary you want your hayride experience to be. Come during more daylight for a less frightening experience. At night, it is definitely startling as ghosts and ghouls jump out at the hayriders.

ZooBoo at the Indianapolis Zoo

The Indianapolis Zoo brings their own twist to Halloween with many activities, from Halloween themed dolphin shows and demonstrations of elephants destroying pumpkins. The whole zoo is outfitted with a Halloween flare.

Additionally, the milder, cooler temperatures allow for the animals to be much more active than during the hot summer days!

Cost: Included in Regular Admission: Adults – $17.70, Kids – $13.45

Dates: Oct. 7-9, 14-16, 21-23, 28-30, from 2-7pm

How Scary? This ranks low on the scale of scariness, as most (if not all) of the activities are during daylight hours and is largely geared toward younger children.
